Have you heard the term liminal space?
These are those in-between places we travel through as we go from one place to the next. Good examples are hallways, staircases, airports and waiting rooms. We don’t normally think too much about them when we’re in them because our thoughts are more about either where we are coming from or where we are headed to.
Most times we’re only in liminal space for a very short amount of time, but when we’re stuck there for a longer than expected amount of time, the more out of sorts we become.
So now… we are most certainly in a very challenging example of a liminal space. This pandemic that has taken us from what we know as normal and put us in the “in-between” place for over six weeks now. Adding to our altered state is that we’re not sure what our “new normal” will look like. Today, we have many more questions than answers:
- What will my new normal be?
- How will my workplace function differently?
- How will I be expected to lead others post COVID-19?
What we do know is that we will see businesses move from responding and recovering, and eventually back to growing and sustaining. I firmly believe that we will see that the leaders who figured out how to integrate and master digital work, community, and collaboration during COVID-19 will be the leaders that will lead their teams, organizations, and our economy forward.
For the past five weeks, I’ve hosted a Leader Online Happy Hour at the end of the day on Thursdays. Because the topics have been guided by what the leaders want to discuss… the conversations have been excellent!
You are welcome to join us this Thursday, April 30th. If interested, please click on the link below to register.
If you’re unable to join us this Thursday, but would like to register for the next Leader Online Happy Hour, here is that link…
