Leadership in a Low Touch World

Now that COVID-19 has changed nearly everything, what will your leadership look like in the new “low touch” world?

If you’ve not spent some time thinking about what will change and how you will need to lead, you should really get started. You will find that you already have many of the skills and abilities you need. You’ll also likely find that you will have several areas for development. To help get you started, here are 10 great questions to ask yourself:

  1. Am I demonstrating that I’m open to the new opportunities that will come with change?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  2. Am I staying curious toward my employees so that I can learn more about them beyond work?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  3. Am I staying curious about my employees so they know that they matter to me? If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  4. Am I being an approachable and vulnerable leader?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  5. Am I following through on the things that I am committing to?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  6. Am I creating clarity for all who report to me? How about to the people I report to?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  7. Am I communicating a future of hope for my employees?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  8. Am I having more focused one-on-one conversations?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  9. Am I creating a feeling of stability for all?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?
  10. Am I practicing self-care?  If yes, how? If no, what do I need to do differently?

The more questions you can answer “yes” to, the more likely you have a higher touch leadership approach and will effectively support and build your employees while helping to support and to build your organization well into the future.

With all the changes going on, it’s even more important to connect with other leaders for support. You’re invited to join other leaders facing many of the same issues you are at the next Leader Online Happy Hour. These are offered on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm CDT. There is no cost to you, but I am limiting numbers to give everyone the chance to participate.
